Cleaning tile grout can be one of the most important things you can do to bring your kitchen back to life. Over the years the grout in between your tiles can build up with dirt and girme to the point where you don't even notice that it is getting dirty.
To keep grout lines clean, it is suggested that grout cleaning is done at least yearly.
The main problem with cleaning grout in kitchens is that as well as dirt and grease in medium/hard water areas limescale builds up on the grout (especially around the sink).
Step 1: It is recommended to remove any grease deposits especially around ovens, hobs and extractor hoods with HG Grease Away.
Spray on the surface to be cleaned. Leave to work for a few seconds. If applied to stainless steel, spray HG Grease Away on a clean cloth and then clean the surface.
Then wipe with a cloth soaked in (preferably very warm) water. Depending on the degree of soiling, repeat the treatment.
Step 2: It is then recommended to remove any limescale deposits from the surface of the grout. There are two products depending on the type of tiles you have.
For non-acid resistant natural stone tiles (Marble, Travertine, Terrazzo etc.) we recommend HG Hagesan Marble and Natural Stone Cement and Lime Film Remover.
Wet the surface to be cleaned. Dilute the product 1:10 with warm water (approx. 120 degrees F). Apply with a scrubbing brush and brush softly on the wet floor. Leave to penetrate for approx. 5 minutes, keeping the surface damp, then scrub thoroughly and rinse with clean water afterwards.
For all other tiles we recommend HG Hagesan Blue.
Use undiluted or up to 1:10 (with water). Apply with a sponge (such as a scotchbrite type pad with sponge). Leave to work for a few minutes to dissolve lime and scale, then clean with a sponge and rinse off thoroughly with water. Use the scouring side of the sponge to remove stubborn scale. Rinse away streaks running down walls with water.
Step 3: Once any limescale and grease deposits have been removed the grout is ready to be cleaned.
For non-acid resistant natural stone tiles (Marble, Travertine, Terrazzo etc.) we recommend HG Super Remover.
Dilute HG Super Remover 1:10 (1 litre to 10 litres of water). Using a sponge or mop, apply the solution liberally to the surface to be treated. Scrub the surface well. Allow to soak in for a few minutes and scrub again.
Then remove the Super Remover from the surface with a sponge. Wring out and rinse the sponge at regular intervals. Finally rinse twice with clean water. If necessary, repeat the treatment. In the case of very stubborn dirt, use a solution of 1:4.
For all other tiles we recommend HG Grout Cleaner.
Dilute HG Grout Cleaner 1:4 in lukewarm water. Then apply the solution to grout joints with a Scrubbing Brush. Leave to work for approx. 10 minutes then scrub the grout with the Scrubbing Brush. Finally clean with lukewarm water to remove the dirt (it is important to clean the sponge repeatedly in clean water). Leave to dry. If necessary repeat the application.
If stains are really bad and nothing you try will get them out, you can remove the grout with a grout saw and then apply fresh grout.
Step 4: After cleaning is done. Protecting your tile grout should now be done to prolong the life and cleanness. For this we recommend HG Super Protector for Wall and Floor Grout*.
