How to Remove Excess Grout Residues / Grout Film and Grout Haze from Tiles
The primary ingredient in many ceramic tile grouts is cement. It takes days and often weeks for cement-based tile grout to fully harden. At this point in time, you are working against the clock. The longer you hesitate to remove the grout, the harder it becomes to remove.
If you are trying to remove epoxy based Grout - you will need HG Spot Stain Remover. The removal of cement based grout requires a simple tool and one of 3 HG Hagesan Products depending on the type of tile and tile grout you have.
For removing cement based grout for a start you will need some small pieces of wood that have very square-cut edges. Use the wood sticks to remove large clumps and layers of grout. Do NOT use metal scraping tools, putty knives, etc. The metal will permanently damage the surface of the tile. Hardwood holds its square cut edge longer than a softwood. The crisp square edge aggressively cuts through the grout down to the surface of the ceramic tile. Before you begin to work on the grout-covered tile with the stick, pour a little water on it. The water acts as a lubricant and helps to prevent micro-scratches on the tile surface. It should not require excessive pressure to get immediate results. Once the heavy deposits of grout are removed using the hardwood stick, rinse off all of the grout particles and grit from the surface of the tile.
Now you can use one of the specialist HG Hagesan products below. It is important to select the correct product.
Calcareous Stone: Refers to substances mostly or partly composed of calcium carbonate, in other words, containing lime or being chalky. Calcareous stones are readily dissolved in acid, therefore acidic products should not be used on limestone, marble, travertine, blue (hard)stone, (non-acid resistant) slate, terazzo, granito, basaslt and cement based tiles.
If in doubt please check with your tile supplier, test on an inconspicuous area first or use the HG Marble and Natural Stone Cement and Lime Film Remover. |
